Roleplay & Chat

Chat and roleplay with characters, funded by the chat credits your cards earn. Here's how it works.

Chat credits

Messages are paid for with chat credits — your wallet balance shows in the top bar. Each reply a character writes spends credits in proportion to its length; the greeting and switching between alternate replies are free.

There are two ways to get credits:

  • Redeem a card's QR code — this adds the card to your collection and grants credits.
  • Buy credits directly from Buy chat credits — no subscription, top up whenever you like, and bigger packs give you more credits per dollar.
Starting a chat
  • Open Roleplay from the menu to see characters you can chat with — ones you've unlocked from cards, ones you've made or imported, and any shared with you.
  • Click Chat on a character to start (or resume) a conversation.
  • Type a message and the character replies, streaming in as it writes.
Make or import your own characters

Use New character to write one from scratch, or Import card to bring in a SillyTavern character card — drag in the .png (the kind with character data embedded) or paste the character JSON. Your characters are private to you by default; you can make them public or share them with specific members as a user (can chat) or editor (can also clone). Character art must stay safe-for-work.

Memory — what a character remembers
  • The character always sees the most recent messages.
  • Older events are automatically condensed into a running summary, so it remembers the gist of a long story without you re-explaining.
  • You can pin facts (the bookmark icon) you want kept in mind permanently.
  • Imported characters can carry a lorebook — background details that surface when you mention them (typos are tolerated).
Editing, regenerating, and swipes

Don't like a reply? Regenerate it for a fresh take — you can swipe between the versions with the ◀ ▶ arrows. You can also edit or delete any message, and set a persona (who you are in the scene) from the person icon.

Reply quality & web search

Two per-conversation switches near the top of the chat let you trade credits for better replies:

  • Higher quality (HQ) — the character reasons before replying, for richer, more coherent responses. It's a little slower and costs more credits per reply.
  • Web search (Web) — lets the character look up current, real-world facts. This also costs extra credits.

Both are off by default and remembered per conversation, so you only pay the extra when you want it.

Group chats

Use Group chat to put two or more characters in one scene. Pick who responds each turn with the “Who replies” chips; by default the cast takes turns. Each reply is labelled with the character who spoke.

Mature (18+) content

Conversations have an 18+ toggle. Mature content is only available once you've verified your age and where your location allows it — until then the toggle stays locked and the chat stays safe-for-work (tap the lock to verify). A few things are never allowed regardless of settings: anything sexualising minors, real-world violence or harm toward real people, and self-harm.

Privacy

Your conversations are private to your account, and you can delete any conversation at any time. Chat data is encrypted at rest. See our Privacy Policy for details.
